Good Vibes Only & Color Wheel Pattern Release!

Is there anything happier than a blog tour for a fabric with Good Vibes in its name? I don’t think so and that’s why I was so excited to be asked to work with this fabric by Shayla Wolf of Sassafrass Lane for Windham Fabrics.

Seriously, so much awesomeness! You can’t help but feel happy when you check out the lookbook for this fabric. And I think it’s so cool knowing that the entire thing was photographed with an iPhone!

There are 32 prints in this collection, all full of colorful and positive words and affirmations.

My first project used one of the grey on white word prints as a background. Using thin strips that I ripped from the fabric (because how good do those frayed edges look?!), I fashioned two flowers and a collection of leaves. I positioned them so that the word “Beautiful” could be embellished with lots of beads. This one just makes me so happy!

For my second project, I created a brand new pattern, the Ruffled Color Wheel which, drumroll please, is available TODAY!

When I saw the variety of colors included in the Good Vibes Only fabric, I knew I needed to create a project that used lots of them! What better way to use color than a color wheel!

Also, are you a button lover like I am? This is a fun project to include some of your favorite colorful buttons! So much better than keeping them stored in a jar on a shelf. Ahem, that’s the voice of experience speaking!

Foundation Fabric Blog Tour

I have been on a color wheel kick lately, making a variety of them from my Fractured Color Wheel pattern. When I was asked to make something with the brand new Foundation fabric line, I knew a color wheel would look amazing in these fabrics.

A combination of geometric designs and every rainbow-colored hue, this fabric could not have been more perfect to create my color wheel.

And now for my project!

You know how sometimes you’re walking down unused railroad tracks and you spy a rusty pile of metal wire and you think to yourself, “if only I had a rainbow-colored pillow to rest my head for a minute while I sit here in the sun?”

Then you’re not alone! I had the same exact thought while carrying this pillow down the unused railroad tracks in my neighborhood! Check it out:

If you follow along with me on Instagram, then you’ll know that machine sewing isn’t exactly my forte or my love. But look what I did…I added a zipper to my pillow cover! This is only the second zipper I have ever sewed…ever…so this is kind of a big deal for me!

The teal and lime green are two of my favorite colors/prints from this line and so I wanted to use both of them in my project!

Here’s a close-up of the embroidered center of my color wheel. It doesn’t get better than beaded triangles!

Boho Stitch Along. Week no. 19

My stitch Along piece this week is a hoop that I am making as a gift for one of my boy’s teachers…a little late for teacher appreciation week, but it will be done soon!

How cool is this fabric from Free Spirit Fabrics from the line, “Neptune and the Mermaid”?!

There’s a story behind this one, though…

I saw this fabulous fabric online and just had to buy it immediately (from Circa 15 Fabric Studio). When I buy fabrics, I don’t typically buy large quantities…usually a fat quarter or a 1/2 yard works for most of my projects. Not checking the size of this octopus, I quickly added a 1/4 yard to my cart and then added a few other things and then checked out.

I couldn’t wait to open the fabric when it arrived. Sadly, I realized that, with this particular fabric, I should have ordered a larger cut because I didn’t get one complete octopus. SO…if you like this one and want a complete octopus, don’t make my mistake and think you can get by with a 1/4 yard!

Here’s how I’ve made lemonade out of my lemon-ish purchase! I’ve been using the Lion Brand bonbons and seed beads to add swirly octopus legs around the flowers on the fabric.

I think it’s a pretty good fix, right?!

And speaking of Octopi (because we were, right?!), here’s another one I’ve been stitching. This one required lots and lots and LOTS of fussy cutting and another Free Spirit Fabric this one from Heather Bailey‘s “Hello Love” line. You’ll be seeing lots more from this one as I finish it off to send to Sue Spargo for Quilt Market this week!

Speaking of purchases (because we were, right?!), look at this beautiful trim! I have no particular project in mind for these, but I saw them and knew I had to have them for something!

And speaking of Quilt Market (because we were, right?!) Here’s a detail shot of one of the hoops i’ve been making for Robert Kaufman’s booth with the upcoming Jennifer Sampou “Shimmer On” fabrics (coming out in August).

Remember how I told you I love these Sulky 12 Wt. Cotton Petites? Well, this is what I love them for…they are brilliant for adding beads to my embroidery! They do not break (like when I tried to use just plain sewing machine thread) and you don’t have to separate threads (like when you use floss).

I’ll post more pics of these hoops around Quilt Market time!

And speaking of sneak peeks (because we were, right?!) Here’s a peek at a mini quilt made with my Fractured Color Wheel Embroidery Pattern. I used some of my favorite Anna Maria Horner fabrics combined with so beautiful You and Me batiks. My mom (even though she told me not to give her any credit!) did the quilting and binding and everything else for me!) It turned out better than I was picturing!! How about that butterfly in the center?!

Fractured Color Wheel

Well, it’s March 1st and that can mean only one thing (around here, anyway!) It’s time for the Spring embroidery pattern release! I’m really excited about this one.

When my book first came out, so many people commented about the color wheel on the front cover of the book. Because that project was made for one of the chapter headings, I did not include a pattern for it inside the book. But because I was asked about it over and over and over again, I thought I would create a new version, perfect to be stitched up for spring!

So here it is: the Fractured Color Wheel embroidery pattern!

Available for a limited time as a download in my Etsy shop, the PDF pattern contains instructions for creating a 6″, 9″ or 12″ version of the Fractured Color Wheel!

Here is the sample 12″ version that I made using some of my favorite Alison Glass fabrics. The background fabric on this one is a black Andover chambray (one of my favorite lightweight background fabrics!)

And then the 9″ version, which is my all-solid version. I used RJR Fabrics Cotton Supreme Solids, which are seriously a dream to work with. I don’t work with solids much, but when I do, they are my go-to solids!

The 6″ version is my Cotton + Steel color wheel. It was really fun to create color order out of these prints! And the tiny version of this can be worked up fairly quickly.

In the pattern, I included Stitch Guides to show you what stitches I used where on the color wheel. Almost all of the stitches can be found (with complete instructions) in my embroidery book.

Coming soon: stitch videos! Now, when I say “soon,” I mean it is an item on my ever increasing to-do list, so you know how that goes!!! It’s definitely something I’m working towards including here on my site.

So there you have it, a brand new pattern just perfect for Spring! I can’t wait to see what color/fabric combinations you create with this pattern!
